This is one of the most aggressive and abundantly fruiting oyster mushroom varieties we have worked with. An attractive blue tinted oyster mushroom with cultivation requirements similar to the pearl or common oyster mushroom. Blue oysters fruit easily on a wide range of substrates and are good candidates for recycling wood and paper waste into edible mushrooms.

This oyster mushroom runs spawn and fruits quickly. We’ve experienced fruiting in less than two weeks when spawning pastuerized straw with our blue oyster mushroom sawdust spawn blocks. Fast and forgiving, this is a great candidate for a stock oyster mushroom variety in small scale mushroom farming operations.

As with all Oyster mushrooms, blue oysters need plenty of fresh air to develop normally. High carbon dioxide levels from mushroom metabolism will accumulate in sealed growing environments and can reduce cap size and elongate stems severely. Fruiting in open humidity chambers with frequent fresh air exchange will produce best possible yields.

The blue coloration of this mushroom is much more pronounced in the early stages of growth. When mature only a slight “hint” of blue coloring remains, but the fruits can often turn nearly white with age.
