The Bear’s Head culture of Hericium americanum offered here has been isolated from a specimine collected in the wilds of our beautiful southern mountains near Knoxville, Tennessee. Bear’s Head Tooth is very closely related to Lion’s mane. These mushrooms are similar in flavor and growth habits.
Bears’s Head Tooth is an aggressive species that spontaneously forms primordia on malt agar and sawdust substrates but may be slow to colonize grain spawn. The mushroom develops quickly once initiated and can grow from a tiny primordia to a large, ready to harvest mushroom in one week or less.
We also sell Bear’s-head tooth Mushrooms, Hericium americanum, dried and by the ounce.
*Note: Culture supplied as living mycelium in a test tube slant or grown on sterile media in a petri dish. Culture can be stored under refrigeration for several months. Slants are best suited for long distance travel, international shipments, or long term culture storage. To ensure freshness of culture, slant and plate requests are made to order, please allow 2-4 weeks for processing and shipment. Please choose between Slant or Petri Dish below.
