Often described as firm and meaty, we find the pioppino mushroom has a desirable sweet nutty flavor. It combines well in pasta, risotto, and meat dishes. Use anytime “wild mushrooms” are called for and you won’t regret it.
The pioppino is a highly prized wild mushroom found primarily on or around poplar trees, however it is also easy to cultivate at home using our Supplemented Sawdust Block w/ Rye Grain Pocket. It can also be grown in your garden from mushrooms logs, or create your own mushroom logs at home using our plug spawn.
*Note: Culture supplied as living mycelium in a test tube slant or grown on sterile media in a petri dish. Culture can be stored under refrigeration for several months. Slants are best suited for long distance travel, international shipments, or long term culture storage. To ensure freshness of culture, slant and plate requests are made to order, please allow 2-4 weeks for processing and shipment. Please choose between Slant or Petri Dish below.
