So we have this whole cycle of life thing here at Everything Mushrooms, after all we're just caretakers of cultures. We germinate, isolate, spawn, expand and propagate. With the dozens of mushroom varieties we manage, we're constantly working on our fortune telling skills, attempting to predict mushroom grower's demands through the seasons and producing an appropriate amount of kits on a regular basis to keep it fresh and ready to ship when ordered (not asking our customers to wait weeks like other places...). As a byproduct of proactive production, we'll occasionally end up with material approaching a certain age when... although it's still perfectly healthy and viable, would best to be grown soonish or quickly. In an effort to move it along to a happy home, we place this material on our "bargain rack," where it is listed for sale on this page.
Yes... well, no, kinda sorta. It's aged material, meaning that some kits may already have primordia or mushrooms on them. Some folks may consider this a blessing, after all your kit comes with mushrooms already growing on it! In practical terms this just means you'll need to open the bag from the top, remove the premature growth and close it back up and proceed with the kit as per the instructions. You may even get a little snack out of it before hand, and while we don't put expiration dates on our material... this stuff would generally be considered to be approaching expiration. That's the straight dope on it. Still good to use, maybe not 100%... but if you want to try something new, or like hunting bargains, this is a heck of a deal.
An approximately 1kg block of supplemented sawdust colonized with mushroom mycelium. The blocks come ready to fruit and are complete with instructions. The supplied humidity tent will support the mushroom's growth, however the kits may do better if placed in a more ideal terrarium or environment. These grow very well on the kitchen counter top and all our kits will perform nicely in normal indoor temps (60-70F). We maintain all cultures in house, creating this material fresh on a weekly basis. The kits are produced using locally sourced, organic material, free from chemicals or other treatments. Each kit will produce multiple crops of mushrooms over a 6-8 week cycle. Once molded, or growth ceases, the kits can be composed or added to the mulch beds to infuse your soil with natural, organic, beneficial mushroom mycelium.
